poem

 (untitled)

One of the pieces to the mosaic of going into the woods—
or perhaps biggest piece of all—
is embodied in a word the Japanese developed—
komorebi, or sunlight in the trees.
As poet I’ve been trying to capture
its myriad effects and affects on the psyche
for many years; as a poet how could it not
be an artistic obsession
gone to page again and again and again?
Perhaps in the end,
all any of us really have
is beauty of light and trees.
