Perhaps said in a history book from years gone by, but in listening to The Commentaries by Cesar, you find he had asked his main adversary, Pompey, multiple times to dually submit to the Senate and avoid a Civil War. Pomey thought he would win, but didn't. Cesar was not a tyrant/demagogue, but someone who simply took matters into hand based on circumstance.
