poem

(untitled)

To be imperious means

to be possessed of command—

subversive to the order

or creator of it;

and to be so

is a facet of nature,

of children in a playground,

a piece in the

apparatus of

making the world

safe for love.

We forgive a child

fearing the dark,

and pity

the adult fleeing light,

for that the sole

purpose and meaning

of individual existence—

to be true to

what’s true.
